Michigan state forest campgrounds are a few of the finest camping facilities in the Midwest US. These family-friendly parks offer activities such as hiking, swimming, fishing, country sites, sailing, hunting, mountain cycling and plenty more. There are over 140 campgrounds in Michigan. Plenty of the most country campgrounds are found in the Higher Peninsula, while more contemporary campgrounds are found in the Lower Headland ( glove ). Michigan state forest campgrounds are terribly intensive, covering just about 4,000,000 acres of state forest land. Most campgrounds are situated on lakes or rivers, making them great locales for sailing and fishing. Some campsites are so remote that you have to access them by hiking through woods, or by boating across a stream.
One great modern campground in the Lower Promontory ( glove ) is Highland Recreation Area. It offers 5,900 acres of forest, marshes and lakes inside its hilly landscape. There are trails for equestrian riders, hikers and skiers and mountain bike riders. There is an activity for each season in this park. Activities include boating, fishing, hunting, mountain cycling, swimming, cross country skiing, hiking, metal finding, snow-mobiling and wildlife watching. Facilities include cabins and lodges with electricity and modern loos, a beach house, equestrian and picnic shelters, picnic areas and a dog trial area. Never forget to take a look at the Crown V Ranch, the Highland Recreation Area riding stable.
One of the oldest state parks in the Higher Promontory is Brimley State Park. It is situated along the stunning shore of Whitefish Bay on Lake Superior. Activities include fishing, hiking, hunting, metal identifying, swimming and it's part of the Michigan State Park Explorer programme. Facilities include Mini-Cabins with electric service and modern restrooms, a beach house, picnic shelter, picnic area and playground. In the local area just a short drive from the park are other attractions such as the Tahquamenon Falls, two countrywide fish hatcheries, the Hiawatha State Forest, Mackinac Island State Park, the Tower of History, the Museum of Ship Valley Camp, the Soo Locks, the Coast Guard Station, the International Bridge and the Mackinac Bridge.
On the extreme eastern side of the Upper Headland is the country Lime Island State Forest Campground in Chippewa County. Visitors to Lime Island must take a ship 3 miles across the St. Mary's River. Parking for vehicles is available inland at the city of Raber. Using a non-motorized ship to cross the St. Mary's Brook isn't endorsed. Activities include fishing, hiking and swimming. Facilities include cottages with two to three bedrooms that can accomodate up to 8 people, with limited electric capabilities produced by solar cells in the roof. Water and portable bath rooms are handily located close by. Tent camping is available using wooden platforms to cut back the impact on the encompassing environment. This is a place where you can get back to the faster pleasures in life.
