Kinds Of Breast Implant Device

According to the statistics from the Danish Registry for Plastic Surgery of the Breast, 85% received breast implants for augmentation and 15% had breast reconstruction following mastectomy; 88% were silicone gel. from June 1999 to November 2001. 4% (of the 16%) had capsular contracture, the majority of which were classified as minor; and 1% (of the 16%) required additional surgery. A breast implant is a prosthesis used to correct the size, form, and feel of a lady's breasts in post-mastectomy breast reconstruction; for fixing genetic disorders and deformities of the chest wall; for aesthetic breast enhancement; and for making breasts in the male-to-female transsexual patient.

There are 2 forms of breast implant useful for mammoplasty, breast reconstruction, and breast augmentation procedures.

About Saline Breast Implants

Saline implants have been criticized for feeling hard or unnatural, but improved surgical tactics - such as placing the implant behind the chest muscle and slightly overfilling it - have minimized these complaints.

The saline breast implant was developed to facilitate a more conservative surgical approach, of smaller and much less cuts to the breast, for emplacing an empty breast-implant device via a smaller surgical cut.

Saline implants are filled with saline, usually during surgery.

Saline breast implants are available to women age 18 and older for breast augmentation, or women of any age for breast reconstruction.

Saline implant sizes vary from 120cc to 960cc. A patient wanting implants larger than 850cc will require customized implants. Presently, the only implants readily available for utilization in the United States are those made by Mentor Corp. and Allergan.

The saline implant has an elastomer silicone shell filled with sterile saline solution. There are prefilled saline implants, which are filled by the implant company.

The sterile saline solution, used as the implant filler, should adapt to the USP (United States Pharmacopeia) of Normal Physiological Saline (injection grade), which has a concentration of 0.15M and a pH of 7.2-7.4.

An edge of saline breast implants is that, if the shell ruptures, the saline (salt solution) is consumed by the body. If a saline breast implant ruptures, it is apparent because the implant deflates.

SILICONE Breast Implants

The silicone implant has an elastomer silicone shell filled with viscous silicone gel.

In general, silicone gel-filled implants are smoother and softer than their saline-filled counterparts.

Most silicone gel-filled implants aren't changeable which is one disadvantage compared to saline implants.

Some ladies feel that silicone implants feel and look more like natural breast tissue.

Silicone breast implants Cardiff are available to women age 22 and older for breast enhancement, or women of all ages for breast reconstruction.

In 1999, a landmark report, undertaken by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) determined that silicone implants do not lead to major medical problems such lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.

Silicone gel may remain inside the implant shell or drip outside of the shell if it ruptures. Sometimes there isn't any clear symptoms when a silicone-gel implant ruptures.

The FDA recommends that females with silicone-gel filled implants undergo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) 3 years postoperatively, then every 2 years to evaluate for ruptures. Silicone implants need to be removed when they rupture.

When choosing which kind of implant is perfect for you, discuss your options with a board-certified plastic surgeon. Start your quest for a nearby surgeon now. Make sure to carry out research before you make the huge move!
